DAFFODIL SHOW
SPRING FLOWERS ON DISPLAY, Due possibly to the unfavourable weather, the attendance at the West Coast Horticultural Society’s annual daffodil show- in the Greymouth Town Hall was disappointing yesterday, but there were indications early this afternoon that an improvement would be shown, to-day. Thirty-four pupils of country schools, Te Kinga, Ruru, Aratika and Barrytown, who visited Greymouth this morning for manual training, were given an opportunity to visit the show by the teacher in charge, Miss Schwebe, of Te Kinga. The society invited the children to be its guests, but, without exception, they expressed a desire to contribute towards the society’s funds and each paid the child’s admission fee of sixpence. This spontaneous gesture was favourably commented upon by officials of the society. In addition to the competitive sections, there is an excellent display of daffodils by the judge of that section, Mr. N. Burn, of Christchurch. Some of the newest varieties are included in the display. The special award for the best bloom in the amateur class went to Mr. W. J. Preston, Greymouth, the winning exhibit being a fine trumpet.
