INITIATION OF DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said to-day that reports had been made to ’hiffi that in some cases divorce proceedings had been initiated by United States servicemen who were married to New Zealanders at present residing in New Zealand and that difficulties had arisen whel’e the wives concerned desired to defend the actions. Information was not available to determine where the actions had been commenced, but New Zealand wives of United States servicemen who have evidence that actions for divorce are contemplated or have been commenced should communicate with the Under-Secre-tary of Justice, Wellington, who will, if desired, advise the best course to follow to defend the action. If the circumstances warrant, steps will be taken through the New. Zealand Minister at Washington to ensure the effective presentation of the wife’s case during the court proceedings- _________
