COAL BILL DEADLOCK
SATISFACTION EXPRESSED AT COMPROMISE PRINCIPLES NOT CHANGED (Rec. 11.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 19. All parties are pleased with the compromise which ended the deadlock on the Legislative Council’s amendments to the Coal Bill. The State Premier (Mr. McKell) expressed satisfaction that the council had been convinced of the vital need to leave the principles of the Bill unchanged. The spokesman for the mine owners said that the changes justified the earlier criticism of the Bill. An official of the Miners’ Federation said that the success in getting the Bill through the council should encourage the miners to agree to boost production by working alternate Saturdays. _____
