INDONESIA’S FUTURE

DUTCH SEEK RESUMPTION OF TALKS BATAVIA, Sept. 15. The Lieutenant-Governor of the Netherlands East Indies (Dr. van Mook), in a letter to the Prime Minister of Indonesia (Mr. Sjahrir), suggested that negotiations on the future of the Indies should bo resumed as soon as a commission headed by the Dutch Prime Minister (Professor W. Schermerhorn) arrived. Dr. van Mook. said that if problems were approached in a peaceful manner it might be possible to find a common ground for an agreement eliminating the existing suspicions, guaranteeing recognition of the Indonesians’ desire for freedom, and reaffirming the close connections between the Netherlands and Indonesia.
