ASSOCIATION Representative Match on Saturday

The first representative Association football match in Greymouth for some years will be played on Victoria Park on Saturday when the West Coast will meet Canterbury. The West Coast team will have to be right on its toes against the Canterbury, team which is composed of young fast players. This match will be in the nature of a preliminary to the match between the two provinces for.the Dawson Cup. The West Coast contains a few young players but mostly comprises more experienced men. There has been some experimental re-shuffling of various positions in the side which the selectors will be watching with interest. Teams Announced. The following are the teams: — West Coast: Goal, Gloss (Runanga); backs, Bailey (Blackball), Armstrong (Runanga); half-backs, Nuttall (Blackball), Bowman (Runanga', Captain), Lee (Taylorville);, forwards, Clarke (Blackball), Ryan (Greymouth), Phillips (Blackball), Scott (Runanga) Ramsay (Taylorville).

Canterbury: Goal, McMillan (Thistle); backs, Nelson (Celtic), Fleete (Shamrock); half-backs, Shaw (Celtic), White (Nomads), Laffey (Shamrock): forwards, Davies-(West-ern), Head (Rangers), Kenny (Nomads), Tullctte (Celtic), McGlinchy (Celtic). Representatives in Form. Saturday’s competition games leave Runanga and Blackball equal at the head of the competition. The' decisive game will be staged on a date to be fixed by the West Coast Association. Runanga, on its home ground, proved too good for Taylorville and won by a comfortable margin. A pleasing feature of this game was the fine form displayed by the selected representative players. Emergencies.

J. Newton’s selection to play in the New Zealand League team on Saturday brings in J. White, of Runanga, as dmergency. White is a useful player and if called upon should perforin well. Malone, of Taylorville, the other emergency, is qnother good club player who will put. up a good display if given the opportunity. New Junior Team.

It is understood' that the Greymouth Club intends to field a junior team in the next round of the competition. If this eventuates it will overcome the difficulty of arranging fixtures due to the working of the “back” Saturday shifts at Wallsend and Blackball. Good Goalkeepers. t

Greymouth’s substitute goalkeeper, Peate, taking the place of the injured Boilette, brought off a number of fine saves in the match against Blackball on Saturday. His opposite number, Pascoe, had not the., same amount of work to do, but at no stage looked likely to concede a goal.

Challenge Match. The Nelson Association has challenged West Coast (the holders) to a match for the Emms Shield, on condition that the game is played at Nelson. The conditions attached to the shield are that all challenges are played on the ground of the holders. It is probable, however, that, in order to foster inter-provincial matches, the West Coast Association will, agree to Nelson’s stipulation.
