PENSIONER’S DEATH

INQUEST PROCEEDINGS AT GREY.MOUTH A pensioner, James Burns, aged 78 years, died in his hut at Te Kinga on July 14 or 15, 194 G, as a result of heart failure following an intestinal obstruction. This was the verdict of the deputy Coroner, Mr. M. J. Fogarty J.P., following an inquest at .Greymouth this morning.

It was disclosed in evidence that the deceased, who had lived alone in a hut near the Te Kinga hotel, had been found lying dead on the floor of his hut early in the morning on July 15, a passer-by having noticed his feet protruding through the doorway. It was concluded that the deceased had collapsed when retiring to bed during the previous evening. There were no marks of violence and nothing to indicate that death had been caused by other than natural causes. Evidence was given by Dr. H. S. Ray, Cyril Arthur Coles, hotel-keep-er, John James Hines, sawmill manager, and Constable J. B. Jones. Sergeant R. W. Woottoty conducted proceedings for the police.
