ROBBERY AVERTED
PROMPT WORK BY POLICE
PATROL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 7. Prompt work by the Wellington police night patrol averted a £l3OO robbery from tailoring premises’ in Lambton quay last night. The thieves had almost completed their work when the patrol’s, suspicions were aroused by the sight of a truck parked in a' side road facing the wrong way and detectives on investigating found the vehicle loaded with a number of rolls of tweeds. At the bottom of a steep bank leading to the back of Hannah’s building were further rolls, the total value of the material being £l3OO, the property of the Elbe Tailoring,Company, which occupies rooms in the building.
Entry was gained by a fire escape, but the thieves were not in the building when the police entered. The truck and property -were taken to the police station.
