LABOUR IN INDUSTRY
NEED FOR CO-OPERATION
URGED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 7. The Wellington Employers’ Association to-day re-elected Mr. Percy Coyle unopposed as president. In an address Mr. Coyle emphasised the desirability of industrial agreements being reached without recourse to the Arbitration Court, and said that such a method represented a real state of co-operation. The chief function of the association, he said, was to bring about and maintain happy relations between the employers and the employees. Referring to shortages of goods, Mr. Coyle said it was impossible to reduce manpower and obtain the same production. He added that what did and would continue to prevent producing to tlje limit were the recurrent small strikes.
He expressed the hope that the Emergency Stabilisation Regulations which were intended to protect the Dominion from the effects of inflation, would not be made so rigid as to hinder industrial recovery.
