REEFTON IMPROVED POSITION OF PUBLIC LIBRARY
(0.C.) REEFTON, August 7. The chairman (the Rev. C. RSprackett) reported at the annual meeting of the Reefton Public Library Committee that there had been a slight increase in membership during the year. The Inangahua County Council had given the committee additional 'financial help and this had improved the position. The balance sheet showed a credit of £3/12/8 on the year’s work. The thanks of the committee were conveyed to the County Council for help, and to the librarian (Miss M. Buist) for her conscientious service. The following officers were elected: Chairman, the Rev. C. R. Sprackett; secretary, Mr. J. Braidwood (both re-elected); committee, Mesdames A. McElwee, J. M. Latham, C. Buist, Messrs F. Ross, C. A. Belcher, J. J. Coghlan, C. Coxall, J. Bradley, R. Hope and Miss Bell. The following recommendations to the new committee were approved: That consideration be. given to the commencement of a free library service for patients at the Reefton hos.pital; that the Reefton Coal Mme Owners’ Association be asked for help for the library; that the committee seek means of adding subscribers to the regular list, and of improving the financial position; that the Minister of Internal Affairs be asked if a grant could be made to the library funds from art union profits; that consideration be given to extending the opening hours for the lending department to every night in the week instead of three nights weekly as at present. It was decided to investigate the proposed extension of the library 1 service to the Maruia, Mai Mai and Cronadum areas. BASKETBALL.
The following Inangahua representative team will travel to Greymouth for matches against Greymouth and Nelson next week-end: Defence, Misses M. Euist, F. Latham, C. Fanning; centres, Misses B. Ross, M. Lockington, J. Patterson; goal, Misses E. C'oghlan, B. Cutbush, M. Breen. Emergencies, Misses A. O’Flaherty, O. Palmer, M. Orsborn. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The following players have been chosen to represent Inangahua against Greymouth at Reefton on Saturday next: M. Prendagast, W. Bell, L. Fitzgerald, P. Cutbush, W. Bonifacio, H. Bellis. R. Smith, B. Niepier, T. Chandler, A. Barman,- B. Truman, P. O’Regan, P. Burrows. Emergencies: T. White, V. Curtain, J. Baker, C. Roundhill, B. Condon, J. Campbell. In the Town v. Country game at Reefton the score was three all. Greymouth third grade beat Inangahua by three points to nil at Reefton.
