County cricket match results were as follows:— Leicester v. Gloucester.— Leicester, first innings, 211; second ■ innings, 360 (Berry 123). Gloucester, first innings, 348 (Barnett 96, Crapp 70; Prentice five for 46); second innings, 227 for six wickets. Gloucester won by four wickets. Glamorgan v. Derby.— Glamorgan, first innings, 164 (Jones 76; Revell, three for 13); second innings, 106 (Copson five lor 29, Rhodes five for 35). Derby; first innings, 291 (D. Smith 80). Derby won by an innings and 21 runs.
Northants v. Yorkshire. —Northants, first innings, 183 (Brookes 80; Bowes four for 45); second, 138 (Coxon five for 33, Bowes three for 26). Yorkshire, first, innings, 344 for five wickets, declared (Hutton not out 171). Yorkshire won by mi innings and 23 runs. Notts v. Warwick. —Nolts, first in-' nings, 372 (Simpson 201; Hollies five for 86); second, 204 for.three wickets (Hardstaff not out 85, Keeton 82). Warwick, first innings, 220 (Dollery 59); followed rfn, 355 (Ord. 115, Dollery 83). Notts won by seven wickets. India Defeated by' Somerset (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 2. Somerset defeated India by an innings and 11 runs. India, in its second innings, scored 43.1 (Pataudi 76, Merchant 88, Hazart 43, Amarnath 41. Sarwate not out 66). Canada to Send Team io England • (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) TORONTO, Aug. 2. The Canadian Cricket Association is planning to send a Canadian team to England in 1949, thus inaugurating Test cricket between England and Canada. The association will arrange cricket festivals at Toronto and Vancouver from which the Test team will be selected.
