FOOD STOCKS
NOW AT LOWEST LEVEL
LONDON, July 31.
“As the last weeks of the 1945-46 harvest year approach, stocks of food are reaching their lowest level.” This statement on the world food position was made by the British Government in a White Paper published to-night. The White Paper adds that maintenance of' the lower ration scale which . came into force in Europe last April avoided a major disaster. The same, practically, could be said of India and the Far East. _ It is hoped that the existing position can be held until the proceeds of the new’ harvest are available to lessen the strain.
