KOREAN TRIAL
COMMUNISTS PREVENT
OPENING TACTICS CONDEMNED “SEOUL, July 31. Lieutenant-General J. R. Hodge, commander of the United States forces in Korea, has issued a statement castigating the Communists, whose demonstration on July 29 prevented the opening of the trial of 17 Korean member's of an alleged counterfeiting ring, some of whom are members of the Communist Party. Lieutenant-General Hodge said this attempt to interfere with the administration of justice through terrorism, riots, and organised mob action was the most shameful incident in south Korea since his arrival. The Communist Party had aroused grave suspicion regarding the extent of its interest in the case.
Meanwhile the Leftist press is making a concerted attack on the Korean police and also the jurists who will try the case. The newspapers 'complain that the police broke up a peaceful crowd eager to attend the court session.
