NEW ZEALAND’S SHARE
ALLOCATION OF GERMAN MERCHANT FLEET REPARATIONS DECISION (Rec. 11 a.m.) BRUSSELS, April 23. New Zealand will receive 0.14 per cent, of Germany’s merchant fleet under the allocations to 15 Allied countries announced by the Inter-Allied Reparations Agency. The 15 Allied countries will share the two-thirds handed over to Britain and the United States, the remaining third being allocated to Russia for sharing with Poland. The shares were apportioned on the basis of the tonnage lost by each country during the war. The shares are as follow: Britain and the colonies, 10,877,000 gross tons lost, representing a share of 46.04 per cent; the United States, 4,209,000 tons, 17.82 per cent; Australia, 44,000 tons, 0.19 per cent; New Zealand, 32,000 tons, 0.14 per cent; Canada, 336,000 tons, 1.42 per cent; India, 56,000 tons, 0.24 per cent; France 1,814,000 tons, 7.68 per cent; Belgium, 313,000 tons, 1.33 per cent; Denmark, 518,000 tons, 2.19 per cent; Egypt, 55,000 tons, 0.23 per cent; Greece, 1,178,000 tons, 4.99 per cent; Norway, 2,393,000 tons, 10.14 per cent; Holland, 1,555,000 tons, 6.59 per cent; Jugoslavia, 202,000, 0.86 per cent; South Africa, 33,000 tons, 0.14 per cent.
