FILM ACTRESS’S FUNERAL

(Rec. noon) NEW YORK, December 28. Disorders and stampedes marked the burial of Lupe Velez at Mexico City, to-day. The scenes were reminiscent of the Funeral of Rudolph Valentino. Lupe Velez’s actress sister, Reyen, fainted, and fell in a crowd. A number of people trod on her before she was rescued. The police were unable to control the milling thousands who were madly racing for vantage points and knocked over monuments. Hundreds scrambled on top of the crypt near the grave to view the ceremony. Others climbed trees. The funeral was the largest Mexico has seen since that of President Obregon, who was assassinated in 1928. All last night Velez’s body lay in state in the mortuary, while 50,000 people filed past. The street outside the mortuary was blocked for hours by crowds.
