Mrs. J. Hunter presided at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute.’Mrs. Lakin gave the Golden Thread Talk. Several members had completed their frocits made at the recent sewing classes. These were exhibited in a mannequin parade. Competition for best vase of wild flowers: Mrs. Evenden 1; Mrs. Ollerenshaw 2; Mrs. Hamer 3. Best bloom competition: Mrs. Caithness (senr.) 1; Miss Hamer, 2; Mrs. Caithness (junr.) 3. The school children arrived at the Institute and were supplied with ice creams and soft drinks and cake. Santa claus arived from the rail car and presented each child with a Christmas gift. Items were given by Patricia Hammersley, Lorraine McIntosh, Valerie Becker, Pat Calder, Noelene Fensom, Pat Lakin and Eileen Lakin. Miss M. Foley (Wellington) is visiting her sister, Miss E. Foley. Mr. and Mrs. Cains of Papanui are visiting Mr. J. Murtha. Mr. and Mrs. J. Gardiner, Christchurch, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. N. May. , Mr. and Mrs. S. Clark, Huntsbury Hill, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. McIntosh. Mr. and Mrs. W. Evenden are holidaying in Timaru. Mr. and Mrs. W. Lawrence arc spending the holidays in Rangiora. Mrs. W. Blair of Greytown is visiting her mother, Mrs. L. Neville.
