ARCHBISHOP’S FUNERAL

CANTERB’Y CATHEDRAL SCENES

(Recd. 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 31. Canterbury Cathedral was, to-day, the centre of a great pilgrimage of prelates and church dignitaries from all parts of the country, and representatives of almost every sphere of public life, for the funeral service ot Archbishop Temple. Nearly thirty Bishops including two American, attended. Throughout the service, the Archbishop of York and the Dean oi Canterbury stood before the altar. The remains were afterwards cremated and the ashes will, be buried privately in a cloister adjoining the Cathedral. Westminster Abbey was crowded for a memorial serviee which was held at the same time as the funeral. Those present included the Duke of Gloucester, representing His Majesty, and nearly all members of the Cabinet.

(Recd. 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 1. At a service in memory of Archbishop Temple held here, the Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop WestWatson) said that in the death of Archbishop Temple the world had lost a great Englishman, great churchman, and a great leader of men. The State Governor (Lord Wakehurst) and Lady Wakehurst were among the large congregation.
