The funeral of Mrs. Mary Anne Hambley, of Runanga, took place yesterday at the Karoro Cemetery, being largely attended. The services, at the residence and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. A. A. Bensley.

After almost 20 years of service Mr H. Nelson Fowler has now retired from the position of Government Meteorologist at Hastings, and has been succeeded by the superintendent of reserves, Mr. J. G. C. Mackenzie.

The wedding took place at Dallington, Christchurch, recently, of Miss Mollv Addison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs H. Addison, of Greymouth, and Patrick O’Sullivan, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Cornelius O’Sullivan, of Aranui. Christchurch. Rev. Father O'Regan performed the ceremony.

The funeral of Mr. Robert Lindley Rowse, of Kotuku, took place at Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. The Brunner Home Guard formed a guard of honour as the cortege passed through Wallsend, and also at the Cemetery. Rev. C. A. Scarfe. of Ahaura. conducted the services at deceased’s late residence, and at the graveside.

Mr. P. M. Brown left, this morning, to commence training with the R.N.Z.A.F. Prior to his departure he was met by the staff of Messrs Hannan and Seddon, with whom he has been associated for a number of years, and was presented with a money belt, suitably inscribed, and containing notes, the presentation being made by Mr. T. P. Ryan. Mr. Brown was also ■met by members of the staffs of other Greymouth law firms, and presented with an envelope of notes, the presentation being made by Mr. A. Mosley.

The death occurred at the Westland Hospital, yesterday, after a lengthy illness, of Mrs Annie Morris, wife of Mr Edmund Morris, of Kanieri, aged 50 years. Deceased, who was a native of Kanieri, is survived by her husband, and two daughters, Mrs W. Mclntyre and Miss Doreen Morris (Kanieri), two sisters, Mesdames L. Dwan and L. Graham (Hokitika), and one brother, Mr W. Owens (Kanieri). The funeral will take place at the Hokitika Cemetery, to-morrow afternoon.

Lieutenant R. Francis, bandmaster of the Wanganui Garrison Band for the last seven years, has been appointed bandmaster of a military camp band. Under Lieutenant Francis the Wanganaui Garrison Band won t*he A grade championship of the Dominion at Nelson in 1937. Also at Palmerston North the Wanganui Band won the hymn and marching test the next year, secured second honours in 1939 at Christchurch, and won the second test at Wellington the following year, scoring 148 marks out of a possible 150. Lieutenant Francis is a former bandmaster of the Wanganui Salvation Army Band.

The death occurred suddenly at Greymouth, this morning, of Mr. Duncan McGregor, of Marsden Road, a native of Dunedin, aged 71 years. His wife predeceased him in December last. Deceased was a dredgemaster on several gold dredges in the Otago, Reefton, and Westland districts before joining the staff of the Dispatch Foundry, Greymouth, as an engine-driver, in 1911. Later, he was assistant storeman. and he retired on account of ill-health in 1931. Deceased was a Past Master of the Mawhera Masonic Lodge, and a Past Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. He is survived by two grandchildren, who reside in Reefton.

The death occurred at Christchurch, yesterday, of Mr Anthony Crispe Cottrell, a solicitor, aged 75 years. He was a member of the firm of Cottrell and Free, of Reefton and Westport, practising at Westport for nearly 20 years before moving to Christchurch. In Westport he served on local bodies, notably the Buller Hospital Board, and the Nelson Education Board. At the time of his death, Mr Cottrell was a member of the firm of Joynt, Andrews, Cottrell, and Dawson. He was for many years a member of the Anglican Synod. Second Lieutenant A. I. Cottrell, a former All Black, now in the Middle East, is a son of deceased.

Th death occurred at Greymouth, on Saturday afternoon, following a long illness, of Mr. Charles Henry Rose, of Shakespeare Street. A native of Kanieri, aged 55 years, deceased was educated in England, and on returning to the West Coast, joined the staff of William Duncan and Co., Hokitika. Subsequently he came to Greymouth, as'office accountant and later land and farm salesman for Mark Sprot and Co. In 1921, he entered into business on his own account, as a general commission agent. He was the first secretary of the West Coast A. and P. Association and held the position for about 12 years. He was a former member of the Greymouth Borough Council, and was auditor to the Grevmouth Jockey Club. Besides his wife, he is survived bv one daughter, Miss Jean Rose (Greymouth) and two sons, Nat (on active service) and Douelas. The funeral took place this afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery. The services at the residence, a’nd at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. A. D. Harwell.
