LIVERPOOL MINE IDLE

HEATING IN WEST LEVEL. The Liverpool mine is idle to-day, and will be idle again to-morrow, on account of heating in the West Level, at the foot of the Anderson dip. Heating has been evident in this section for some days, and it became steadily worse. The men went, to work this morning, but following a conference between the Check Inspectors and the manager, work ceased for the day about 10 a.m. Temporary stoppings are being put in today, and it was expected that they would be completed by to-night. The management has decided, however, that there will be no work in the mine to-morrow, so that the course and intensity of the trouble can be ascertained. To-day, it was not regarded as likely to cause a lengthy stoppage, and the mine will probably resume later in the week. For some time there have been heavy falls of coal in the particular face where the heating has occurred. This is the first occasion on which heating has caused trouble in this particular section. On present indications only one working place will be affected. The last time fire caused a stoppage of the mine was in February., 1940, when the mine was idle for five days.
