COBDEN NOTES

' [our own correspondent.] The monthly meeting of the Cobden School Committee was held last evening. Mr S. Alderson (chairman) presided over the following:— Messrs J Haddock (secretary), W. Loom, R. W. Gardner and E. Brailsford. The annual report of the Dental Committee was tabled for reference. The Education Board wrote, appointing Mr L. D. Daly to the Grade A asistant master position on the school staff, the Board to allow Mr Dowgray to remain in the position until the end of the present term. Accounts amounting to £9/16/3 were passed for payment. Mr Haddock reported on the annual meeting of the West Coast Schools Association, detailing various matters brought forward. Mr Haddock was thanked for his report. The headmaster reported that the attendance had been 203.6 out of an average roll of 236 or 86.2 per cent., the majority of absentees suffering from mumps or whooping cough. A quantity of apparatus was required for the various drill squads. It was resolved to send a letter of thanks to a resident for the present of a parcel of books for the school library. The Chairman, Mr Brailsford, and the headmaster were appointed a subcommittee to obtain quotations for the drill apparatus, and to report to next meeting.
