BOXING
FIGHT FOR STRICKLAND.
[per press association.] PALMERSTON N, December 28. Negotiations are now proceeding with the aim of matching Ron Richards, the Australian light heavyweight boxer, in a bout in New Zealand with Maurice Strickland, who won on points his contest with the Alabama Kid. Mr Lucas, the boxing promoter, who assisted the Manawatu Association in staging the Strickland-Kid fight, has already received a reply from Richards’s manager, saying that Richards would fight in New Zealand. “The whole matter now hinges on whether Richards can get his money out of New Zealand,” said Mr Lucas. “I do not expect there will be further developments until next week.
