NATIONAL PARTY

GREY BRANCH MEETING A well-attended meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the- National Party was held on Monday evening, Mr. J. W. Greenslade presiding. It was decided that, it was desirable that, members of the Party should engage in all movements of a patriotic nature, and that the Party should entry a full share, of the responsibility in this regard. A vigorous discussion took place on various phases of political life and thought, and it was considered that criticism should not be dropped concerning any matter considered to be to the detriment of the national life of the people. The political control of the Reserve Bank, the ever-increas-ing cost of living, the necessity for maintaining production, and the further implementation of the policy of State control, were matters which held the attention of the meeting. The suggested political control of the Reserve Bank, eliminating orthodox methods of finance, was a matter which gave grave concern to the members of the Party, and it was felt that it spelt disaster, with consequent suffering to the masses in future years. The report of the. Provincial Council meeting in Christchurch was presented by the delegate, Mr. P. McDonald. The Greymouth Party is in constant touch with the Dominion Party, having a definite say in its activities. It was decided to make a. further drive to increase the membership, and to increase activities generally. While criticising certain aspects of the Government’s policy in no uncertain manner, the whole spirit of the meeting was behind it in the matter of the welfare of the Empire, in the present anxious time.
