[per press association.] INTOXICATED DRIVER. WANGANUI, September 8. Edward James H. Williams, shop assistant, of Eltham, 23, was fined £25 for being in charge of a motorcar, while in a state of intoxication. PRISON FOR ASSAULT. WANGANUI, September 8. In the Magistrate’s Court, Harry Carstairs was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on a charge of assaulting Wilfred Watson, engineer on the Port Bowen, by striking him on the head with a piece of lead pipe. NEGLIGENT DRIVING DUNEDIN, September 7. At the Magistrate’s Court at Cromwell to-day, Mr. H. J. Dixon, S.M., took the Lower ’ Court hearing of a charge against Allan James Edwards, 19, of negligently driving a motor car and causing the death of William Mutimer, 19. The charge arose out of a motor collision near Cromwell on Easter Monday last, which resulted in eight persons being injured. . Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed in self £lOO, and surety of like amount. The inquest on Mutimer was conducted concurrently, and the Coroner found that death was due to multiple injuries received in an accident.
