CONCILIATION COUNCIL
TAXI-DRIVERS’ DISPUTE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, September 8. On the assumption that the Transport Law Amendment Bill will be passed, during the present session of Parliament, the hearing of the Dominion taxi-drivers’ dispute, which was adjourned on February 9 last, was resumed in the Conciliation Council, to-day. Mr. Bishop said that the employers had not departed from their previous attitude, which was that they could not agree to being bound by certain conditions, unlbss somewhat similar conditions were imposed on ownerdrivers. They now had every reason to believe that those conditions would be imposed, and they were prepared to proceed with the determination of the dispute on that understanding. 'The Council agreed that the award should apply to drivers employed to drive a taxi cab by the holder of a taxicab service license, and that the definition of a taxi-cab should be that given in the Bill now before Parliament. (Proceeding).
