MAORI TRAGEDY
SIX CHILDREN DEAD. FOUND IN BURNING HOUSE. [per press association.] TAUMARUNUI, August. 23. A terrible tragedy occurred last night al. the Maori kind development settlement, about ciglir milt's past the Tongariro bridge, on the National I’ark-Tattpo highway, when six Maori children were burnt to death. 'l'he pat ents, Edward Biddle, and his wife, both Maoris, put. the six children to bod in the house, and, with their infant., went to spend the evening with neighbours. Another neighbour later discovered that, the.' house was in flames, and called the Biddles. Together, they got all the children out of the house, hul. they were severely burnt. The Taumarunui ambulance was sent for, and the children were brought, to hospital, one dying during the journey, and the other five dying in hospital. The. names of the children are: Tony, aged nine years; Martin, eight years; Ngapine, seven years; James, six years; Armstrong, six years; and Reremoto, live years.
