[PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] ' INTOXICATED DRIVER. CHRISTCHURCH, December 31. For the fourth time this week, a case involving a charge againsit a man for being intoxicated in charge of a. motor car was heard in the Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Michael Kennedy, a labourer, aged forty years, of Culverden, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in charge of a car on the main road at Waikari on December 24, and was convicted and fined £2O, and ordered to pay costs. His license was cancelled and endorsed, and he was prohibited from obtaining a license before June 11939.
“If this isn’t, a lesson, I don’t know what would be,” declared the Magistrate, Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., in passingsentence. ”1 am not certain whether it is not my duty to impose a sentence of imprisonment, but 1 am taking into account the fact that you have been seriously injured.”
