EMPIRE MIGRATION

NEW ZEALAND ANXIOUS?

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

(Recd. June 11, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON. June 10

The Newcastle Migration Conference appointed a sub-committee to organise an Empire Migration Conference in London at an early date. Sir Patrick Hannon urging the British Government to take the initiative said that New Zealand was anxious to encourage an increase in British migration. He added that the feeling In Australia, with the exception of one State, was against an immediate resumption unless Britain hears the cost.

Lord Bledisloe said that progress could not be secured without an overwhelming public opinion in favour of migration in the Dominions and the United Kingdom. “I consider there is far more support for more migrants of the right type in New Zealand than is indicated by the Government." he added.
