U.S.A. DUST-STORMS

FARMERS DEMAND RELIEF. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYEIGHT.] . NEW YORK, February IS. Some farmers are demanding Government relief and have planned to write to Congressmen asking for Government jobs so they can eat while they battle with the dust. They point out that the State has made liberal contributions to flood relief, and that they are now as badly off as the flood sufferers; but nothing is being done to help them. Schools closed, street lights burned all dav and there is a shortage of dust masks. Wind-blown top soil spread a haze over parts of Kansas, Texas, and Colorado. All public gatherings are forbidden. At Hugoton (Kansas) church basements were used as emergency hospitals. The Rod Cross Chapter telegraphed a request for nurses to help doctors to handle an outbreak of influenza and pneumonia, which has been aggravated by the dust and "which has caused 11 deaths in the town.
