Won by a length. Time 1.13. Emissary created a mild surprise by winning the Paparua Handicap practically from the barrier rise. He was followed into the straight by Dollar Bill, Arrowrose, Knockfin, Bay Duke, and Pukeko. The last-named made a fast run from the distance, but had no chance with Emissary, who, although not having had a race for some months, and had not done much work in recent weeks, won brilliantly. Knockfin was a good third, after having every chance. Gaysome finished fast into fourth place, on terms with Bay Duke.

CASHMERE PLATE, 6 furlongs.

Autumn Wind endeavoured to win the Cashmere Plate from the barrier rise, and, when he led on to the straight, well clear of the remainder, his success seemed -assured, but Sir Hugh, who got away well on this occasion, tackled the leader a hundred yards from the post. He finished on too solidly, and won by a clear margin. In a close tussle for third money, Cape Gabo held on to beat the fastfinishing Rousseau, on the post.
