TRANSPORT REGULATIONS

WARNINGS TO DRIVERS. . Three provisions of the Transport! Regulations, Which owfners and drivers of motor vehicles are possibly . not familiar with, were brought under the notice of the Grey County Council at Thursday evening’s meeting, by a letter from the Commissioner of Transport (Mr G. C. Godfrey), who wrote: — The following matters have come under my notice, and I sail be pleased if your Council will instruct its Traffic Officer to give his personal attention to the following matters: — 1. Left-hand Driven Vehicles: Clause 1 of Regulation 7 definitely prohibits the importation of any lefthand driven motor-vehicle after April 1, 1928. All vehicles in the Dominion on that date must be equipped with an approved mechanical signalling apparatus. Clause 2 provides that a permit may be given by me for 'the temporary use of any such vehicle imported after that date, but that every driver must on demand produce such permit for inspection. It has come to my knowledge that many of these vehicles are either not equipped with a signalling device or have been imported without a permit.

2. Rural Mail Deliveries. Cream Contractors: Cream stands and rural mail delivery boxes are placed qn both sides of the road and contractors zig-zag fi'o’m one to the othCr',' to the possible danger of other users of the road. It is not feasible to insist on all stands and boxes being placed on the driver’s correct sidd of the road, but it is desirable that traffic officers lose no opportunity of impressing on these' drivers, that it is in their own interests to always give tlid appropriate signal, and then cross to their wrong side only when the road is clear.

3. Motor Vehicles Insurance (ThirdParty Risks) Act, 1928: From the number of cases quoted recently, it appears that many owners of private motor-cars are conveying their fel-low-workmen to aiid from their place cf employment for a monetary concidcration. Should an accident occur when the correct insurance premium has not been paid', then the consequences to the owner of the vehicle may be serious. A warning should be given to all such owners to make immediate application for the appropriate insurance cover, and failure to comply should result in a prosecution.
