SCHOOL TEACHERS FAREWELLED Several presentations were made at the Greymouth Main School, yesterday afternoon, to members ’ of the teaching staff, who have resigned. Miss Agnes Scannell, who has resigned in view of her approaching marriage, after tour years at the school, was presented with a crystal salad bowl from the staff, and a Japanese wall plaque from the pupils. Miss Nita Hopkins, who has been on the Main School staff for the past three years, and who will take up duties at Ashburton in the new term', was presented with a crocodile handbag from the staff, a crystal vase from the pupils of the school, and a pair of black candlesticks from Standard I. Miss N. O’Donnell, who has resigned to take a position at Waimairi (Christchurch), after seven mon’ths at Greymouth, was presented with a crystal candlestick from the staff and pupils. Miss K. Nesbitt, who has been on the Blaketown School staff lor the past 18 months, and who has been appointed to the Kokiri School, was presented with a Dresden china powder bowl, on behalf of the staff of the Blaketown and Main Schools.

The presentations were made by tiie Headmaster, Mr J. Graham, who expressed sincere regret at losing so many capable members of the staff. He referred to the long service of Miss Scannell and Miss Hopkins at the Main School, and spoke highly of their work, which, he said, had always received commendation from Inspectors. The school hayl been fortunate in having the services of all the departing members of the staff, lor, without exception, they had' been valuable teachers, and they would be missed. He wished Miss Scannell the best of health and happiness in her married life, and the ether guests, the best of luck and progress in their profession.

At the Blaketown School, yesterday, Miss Nesbitt was met by the staff and pppils and presented with a bed.< and an eversharp pencil. Miss M. Goldstone, who has completed her term with the Blaketown School, was presented with a cosmetic set, both presentations being made by Mr Graham. Miss M. Wilson, M.A., who has been relieving as senior mistress at the Greymouth Technical High School, since the departure of Mrs. A. C. Dickson, and pending the arrival of Miss I. McNiven, M.A., was yesterday farewelled at the School. A presentation was made by the head prefects, Robert Watson and Betty Tucker, on behalf of the students, and later by Mr. R. McLaren (Principal), on behalf of the staff. In both cases the presentations consisted of suitable books dealing with New Zealand. Miss Wilson, who, until the end of last year, was Senior Mistress at the King Edward College, Dunedin, is returning to that city in the meantime, but later intends visiting the United States and Scotland. Yesterday afternoon, at the School, Miss Wilson gave an interesting account of a previous visit to the United States.
