COUPLE IN BURNING CAR A TIMELY RESCUE fPEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, August 12. A sedan motor overturned on the main road just north of Kaitoke, late on Saturday afternoon. The driver, L. Magee and his wife had narrow escapes, as the car was completely burned. They had to be rescued through a hole which two men cut in the hood of the car. Magee received cuts about the head* and burns on the face. One of the rescuers also received burns on the hands. LORRY MAN KILLED WELLINGTON, August 11. Eric Malcolm Bell, of 4, Ferguson Street, Wellington, died in the hospital last night as the result of injuries he received when a fruit lorry in which he was travelling was struck and wrecked in Kent Terrace, shortly after'6' p.-m. the same'night. It appears that a Hindu fruit lorry had broken down, and Bell had stopped to assist the Hindu to start it. He had succeeded, and with Bell in the lorry, they were following a tram along Kent Terrace. When crossing to Cambridge Terrace the lorry -was struck by a north-bound tram, and wrecked. The Hindu received very severe injuries. BOY INJURED HAMILTON, August 10. Clive Woodward, aged 13 years, was knocked down by a motor-car driven by M. J. Bonham this morning and was later taken to hospital with scalp wounds and concussion.

BODY IN HARBOUR

WELLINGTON, August 12.

The body of a man, aged about 60, which has not been identified, was found floating in the harbour yesterday just off Pipitea wharf. He was of good build, with grey hair, and going bald, and had prominent nose, blue eyes, no teeth, and a scar on the right shin. He was wearing a suit made at Auckland. The body appeared to have been in the water only about twentyfour hours.

WOMAN INJURED.

OAMARU, August 12.

Yesterday morning the police were called to the residence of Archibald Henderson, at Tapui, where they found Mrs Henderson, with knife wounds in the throat and hand. The injured woman alleged that, the intruder entered her bedroom about 1 a.m. on Sunday and inflicted the injuries. The police have found no evidence so far of any intruder. . Her husband was visiting Christchurch. The injured woman is now in a private hospital. Her injuries are not serious.

ARM AMPUTATED.

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 12.

With the right arm almost severed by a circular saw, George Robertson, aged 56, Rahotq, was admited to the New Plymouth Public Hospital yesterday morning. It was necessary to amputate the arm. His condition is now considered to be satisfactory.
