FIRE OUTBREAKS
DUNEDIN LAUNDRY

DUNEDIN, August 10.
As a result of a destructive and spectacular fire, Clark’s Steam Laundry, which was established 65 years ago in North-East Valley was razed to the ground in the early hours of this morning. The outbreak was not discovered till, the flames had taken a strong hold, and although there was an ample supply of water the brigade’s task was hopeless from the start. Summoned by late calls, the firemen had a narrow escape, for just as they were advancing to attack the flames a large wall collapsed outwards and bricks were scattered about at their feet. The building and plant were insured in the Norwick Union Office for £2,000.
TE AROHA ABATTOIR.
TE AROHA, August 10.
Fire destroyed the municipal abattoir this morning. The blaze had a strong hold when the fire brigade arrived. The building was demolished within an hour, and no contents were saved. The building of wood, iion and concrete was erected in 1925 at a cost of over £3OOO. It was insured in tho New Zealand Office, with the contents, for £2,510.
SYDNEY HOSPITAL,
(Recd. August 12, 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 10
Many patients had a terrifying experience when part of the district hospital at Hornsby was destroyed by fire to-day. Nurses, residents, and ambulance mpn worked feverishly and removed all the -12 patients from the building, while the fire raged about them. None was injured. The fire originated in the boiler-room. The damage was about £4OOO.
