GOLF
AUCKLAND v. BRITAIN. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, December 15. The members of the British golf team played the second matches of their New Zealand tour at Middlemore lihks to-day against an Auckland team. The Britishers won four matches, and Auckland one, tfhe other being all square. Results were as follow: —- Scott and Barnett (Britain) v. MacEwan and Menzies, all square; McLean and Bourn (Britain) beat Coltman and George, 1 up; Scott beat Menzies, 4 and 3; George beat Bourn, 2 and 1; Barnett beat Coltman, 7 and 6. Very hot summer conditions prevailed. The fairways and greens obviously puzzled the visitors in the morning, they being unable to stop the ball under the hard conditions. Nevertheless they played impressive golf. Barnett returned the best card in the four ball, being round in approximately 72, against the scratch score for the course of 73. In the singles in the afternoon he was one under fours, when the match ended at the twelfth. For a player who had never seen the course previously, this represented brilliant golf. In the four ball matches, Mac Ewan, Coltman and McLean all actually holed out in 74, Bourn being one more. Next to Barnett in the singles, McLean returned a card of one over fours to the fifteenth, where the match ended.
