Five thousand were present at Kooyong. when Crawford and Quist contested the singles final. Crawford, playing confidently, with great concentration, attacked from the net, forcing Quist with every shot. Quist played courageous tennis to win the second set, but he was driven into errors which robbed him of chances. If Crawford maintains yesteixlay’s standard, he is unlikely to be beaten this season. Miss Round’s victory was a runaway one. Miss Hartigan cracking up badly, and not playing as well as on the previous days, there being little sting in her shots. The men’s doubles final was a great battle. Quist and Turnbull, playing brilliantly, defeated Crawford -and Kopman. There was little difference between the sides. Owing to rain the programme was delayed. Turnbull had to return to Adelaide to-day. Therefor© he and Miss Hartigan gave a walkover to- the Malcolms in the quarter final of the mixed doubles. Commenting on his defeat by Quist on Friday, Perry said he was in the tennis doldrums, though he did not wish to detract from the undoubted brilliance of Quist’s play. He said: “I am not excuses, but just an explanation. I tried as hard as I could, but failed miserably.” LATER. Women’s doubles final: Misses Dearman and Lyle defeated Miss Round and Mrs Harper 6/4, 6/3. The winners played well in combination, but Miss Round who dominated the play on her side, tried to do too much.
