COMPENSATION FIXED. Alfred D. R. Gilbert (Mr J. W. Hannan), extended alluvial claim, 2 acres 1 rood 24 perches, Block 16, Greymouth S.D., 21 years. Objected to by Mary Gibson Smith (Mr T. F. Brosnan). Evidence was taken on the question of compensation, the witnesses being Mrs Smith and her son, James Gibson Smith. Evidence was given for the applicant by Earnest Warnes, valuer. The Warden said that the objector considered that £2O per acre was fair compensation, while the expert evidence for the applicant assessed fair compensation at £6/12/- per acre. The Warden stated that he thought the latter rate was fair, and he fixed compensation at £6/12/- per acre, a total of £l6/10/-. The application was granted, it being agreed that the compensation should be paid before work was commenced on each acre Mrs Smith was entitled to some costs, and he allowed her solicitor’s fee of £l/11/6.
