WAIRARAPA CHAMPIONSHIP. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON, June -1. B. M. Silk, of Wanganui, retained his Wairarapa Club championship to-day, when he defeated J. P. Hornabrook, of Masterton, 2 up and one to play in the final. The contest was not marked by any outstanding golf, but the semifinals in the morning were much better, Hornabrook beating Guy Horn (Hutt) 3 and 1, and Silk beating T. H. Horton (Mastertoil) 2 and 1. In the final Silk played steadily, but his opponent failed to take advantage of his opportunities. BRITISH OPEN TITLE. LONDON, June 4. A record entry of 313 for the open golf championship includes Schute (holder), Kirkwood and Sarazen. Hagen is not competing. GREY CLUB MATCHES. The Callari, Seddon and Field Cup matches set down to be played yesterday between Greymouth and Hokitika were postponed on account of unfavourable weather conditions.
