EAST COAST RAILWAY
COMPLETION CAMPAIGN. [PUB PBEBS ASSOCIATION.] WAIROA, February 9. The General Committee in connection with the completion of the East Coast railway between Napier and Gisborne met at Wairoa to-day. T.ie discussions were not open to the Press, but, after a lengthy deliberation, the following resolution was carried’ unanimously: — . “After thorough investigation and consideration of the question of the completion of the East Coal Rail way the Committee are of the opinion ’that representations should be made to the Government immediately to complete the Napier-Waikokopu section of the East Coast Railwaj. A deputation consisting of the Mayors of Hastings, Napier, Wairoa, and Gisborne, with Messrs Richmond and Chadwick, representing the freezing industry, are to proceed to Wellington at the earliest date to put the arguments in favour of the completion of the line before the Government. Though the decision taken may pievent Poverty Bay .from being linked up for some time, the Gisborne delegates heartily support the proposal, as they realise that the only chance of securing a railway connection was by having the line completed to Waikokopu in the meantime. This is taken as a strong indication that every effort will be made to complete the line before considering having the work carried out by private enterprise which does not appear to meet with favour with the Committee.
