The council of the New Zealand Football Association to-night approved of August 26 as the date for the Football Association trophy match, Auckland v. Otago, at Dunedin. Auckland wrote suggesting that the final of the Chatham Cup be played at Wellington on September 2 instead of August 26. The council declined to make the alteration. The Maori Hill Club’s default to Millerton in the South Island final of the Chatham Cup was reported. Millerton will therefore meet either Waterside (Wellington) or Ponsonby (Auckland) in the final? Permission was given for a representative match, New Plymouth v. Wanganui, on September 2. A letter from the Australian Association intimated that the loss on the New Zealanders’ tour was £550 to £6OO. It was considered that the loss was due to the relatively lower standard of play of the New Zealanders compared with previous teams. The Australian Association was considering a policy regarding future tours in view of the proposed visit to New Zealand in 1934. The Australian Association thought the losses should be a charge against future tours and asked that Australia be given a percentage of the gates in order to recoup the losses. The secretary replied that the tour had cost New Zealand nearly £350 fori assembling and outfitting. Mr. Godber, manager of the team, did not agree that the standard of play was responsible for the loss. Now that the Australian report had been received he was prepared to make a special report as to what he considered had contributed to the loss. He thought he would be able to place a different complexion upon it.
