To-day’s Racing News

Galloping MEETINGS TO COME. July 22—South Canterbury. July 22—Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club. July 29—Christchurch Hunt Club. July 27, 29—Gisborne. • First Win: Chatelaine, the surprise winner of the Oaks last month had never previously won a race. “Everywhere she goes a white goat accompanies her. It is now in her stable at Epsom and when she gets back she will be welcomed by this favourite of hers,” stated the owner, Mr ThorntonSmith, after Chatelaine had won. Luna Lux: With a sequence of wins this season, Luna Lux had to put up with second place in the Wellington Steeplechase, but it was a good effort. The big fences at Riccarton should not trouble him. Speedy: Pladie, who had two second placings to Amyril at Trentham, is a three-year-oild by Paladin from Canal, an Elderslie-bred mare by Kilbroney from Panama. He is a speedy customer who 'will be heard of again. Zeebrugge: Suffered a serious injury to the suspensory ligament, while racing in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham on Tuesday. His racing career is over, but he may recover sufficiently for use as a hack. Spoon: Is starting to move along at a sound pace in her work. She is due for her first race at the Christchurch Hunt meeting at the end of this month, and she may race well, as she comes to hand quickly. To Race Next Month: P. M’Grath is keeping his team going m useful tasks. It is probable that he will have Princess Argosy, In. dicate, and Bell Hill ready to carry Mr J. M. Samson’s colours at the Grand National meeting next month. Rational II: Is getting through plenty of useful work and he looks in the best of health. He may be seen out among the hurdlers at an early meeting, but ' he looks an uncertain prospect as a jumper. Hurdler Doing Well: The hurdler, Prince of Orange, is getting through plenty of useful work at headquarters and appears to be thriving on it. He hit out very freely over a round on the No. 1 grass track yesterday morning, and when he has had one or two similar workouts his condition Should be just about right again. Prince of Orange is a brilliant jumper over hurdles

t and A. Julian should win more races with him during the next few months. Juvenile Developing Nicely: Among the juveniles in work at Ellerslie few are thriving better than the Chief Ruler—Very Hot filly in J. Lambess’ stable, which is developing into a good-looking youngster. So far she has not been asked to show any speed on the track, but she has a nice smooth style of going when doing pace work and promises to turn out well. Improved in Condition: On two occasions during the past week Kairuri has been schooled over the steeplechase fences at Ellerslie, giving satisfactory displays. His condition has also improved since he raced ”at the June meeting, and if he goes on as’ at present, A. Morrow should win some money with him before the jumping season ends. Kairuri is engaged in the Harkaway Steeplechase at Ellerslie next Saturday, and is a possibility in that event. AUCKLAND RELIEF MEETING. AUCKLAND, July 14.
