[OUB OWN COBBEBPONDINT,] REEFTON, November 7. The rainfall for the month of October recordded at Reefton was: Total fall 7.03 inches, with rain on twelve days; ' maximum fall 1.90 inches on October 10. In October, 1930, the fall was 6.72 inches, with rain on nineteen days; maximum fall 1.90 inches on October 10. Work in connection with the new cycling track being formed by the Athletic Club on the Racecourse, still continues- The grader was not a success and the job will have to be completed by hand. When finished, it should be a big asset to the town. Miss Garth who has been on an extended visit to relatives in the North Island, has returned. Mr and Mrs W- J. Burley have left for Christchurch. Mr J. B. Auld left for Christchurch yesterday. The management report officially that the Big River Gold Mines Limited has taken over the Big River Mine which was worked so profitably for many years by the New Big River Company. Mining operations are to be commenced as sooif as the re-con-ditioning of the winding plant and machinery, also of the coal mine for the supply of coal for steaming purposes, is completed. Re-conditioning operations are to be commenced forthwith. It was found that the whole plant was in good order, only minor repairs and adjustments being necessary before the plant will be in working order again. A meeting of the committee of the Reefton Athletic and Cycling Club was held last evening. The West Coast Centre wrote notifying that Easter Monday (March 28, 1932), was allocated to the Reefton Athletic and Cycling Club for their meeting. Time-keepers -were appointed as follow: Messrs Discaciati, Bennington, and Schofield: Judges: Messrs Blom, Topp, Hall and Scott; Starter: W. Gore-Porter; Track Stewards: W. Morris and N. Collins: Recording Steward: N. Lawn. Events for the first meeting were fixed as follows: 100yds Handicap; One mile Handicap; Half mile cycle; One mile cycle; 75 yards Ladies’ race; Long Jump and Pole Vault. Points to be awarded: First 5, second 3, third 1.
