FORGED NOTES

BAIL REFUSED ACCUSED. [per press association.] WELLINGTON, May 11. Arrested at Auckland and remanded to Wellington, David Collinson, 35, was charged at the Magistrate s Cour to-day, with being in possession without lawful excuse of forged Bank of New South Wales notes, knowing them to be forged. The police asked for a further remand, and counsel for accused asked for bail, saying the accused was married with one child, and had a business in Auckland for the last five years. His instructions were that there was a good defence to the charge, and nothing was known against accused, who had never been in trouble before. The police, however, stressed the serious nature of the charge, and suggested that accused was the leader, perhaps, in a conspiracy, to issue the notes. They were issued in Auckland just before Easter, and quite a large number had been traced to the accused. Bail was refused.
