CANNON FOR SALE

RELICS FROM THE TOWER LONDON, March 22. £ome of the old cannon that are now .guarding the Tower of London are for sale. Mr. J. H. Pawley, a representative of the firm which.is disposing of the cannon, said yesterday that some of them would probably be taken to America, as Americans are very keen on historic relics. r The cannon for sale are of bronze or iron and some are probably 200 years old. One gun weighs three tons, fires 15-inch ball shot, and was captured in India many years ago. Another brass Indian howitzer was captured in 1803. There are mortars weighing, in some cases, two tons. Beautifully wrought engraving and models of pugnacious-faced lions are on other guns from Kandahar, and a cast iron gun from China has Chinese characters chased on it. “These cannon are valuable historic relics, although they are being sold so cheaply,” said Mr. Pawley. “But today war souvenirs are no longer in demand. Even tanks are not wanted as mementoes, and we have recently broken some up for the mere value of the metal.”
