REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN COERESPONDENT.] REEFTON, May 11. The death of Mrs Watson senr., at her residence at Crushington on Friday night last removed the last of the pioneers of that district resident here. Deceased was a native of Williamstown, Victoria, and went to Greymouth in the early seventies, meeting her late husband here and being married at Reefton and going to Crushington, had lived there continuously since, being the first woman resident here. Ever ready to render help in times of sickness or trouble, and very, often being doctor and nurse in cases of accident. She was truly the mother of Crushington, for in those, days medical help had to come from Greymouth, and her many good deeds will long be remembered. She is survived by five sons and two-daughters, many grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her funeral took place yesterday and was largely attended over 20 cars taking part in the procession, and every one of the older families in the district were represented. After a short service in the house the cortege moved to the suburban cemetery where the last rites were rendered at the graveside, and one of the favourite hymns of deceased “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” was sung by the assemblage. - Rev. T. W. Parsons rendered the service at the house and graveside, and there were many floral token from friends and those among whom she had lived an active and useful life.
