LIGHTNING STRIKE
NEWSPAPER MACHINE-MEN. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] LONDON, May 8. The second lightning strike during the present week was launched during the printing of the final edition of the “Evening News” last night. The machinemen, in defiance of their Union’s instructions, refused to carry on when the employers decided to run only the necessary machines. The overtime men demanded that all of the machines should be worked, or none. The “Evening News” informed the “Star” and “Standard,” which immediately stopped printing. The machinemen have threatened to extend the strike to the morning papers. LATER. The “Evening News” machinemen declined to print early editions. The “Standard” and “Star” appeared as usual. Later the machinemen returned to work unconditionally, owing to representations of their own trade union officials, and the late editions were published.
