[OUB OWN COEBESPONDENT.] The prolonged spell of fine weather is proving trying to local residents who have •to rely on tanks for their water supply. Practically all the tanks are empty, and householders are compelled to carry supplies from the nearest spring. Those who have wells or pumps are proving yery popular With their neighbours and are doing their best to assist the less fortunate over the trouble.

It is pleasing to note that the Town Board is going to improve the condition of our main thoroughfare, The number of ■ buses on the road has caused numerous pot-holes which, if left, would soon become a serious menace to cyclists, and motorists alike. . .

Good progress is being maintained in constructing footpaths in the township under the No. 5 Unemployment scheme. Already some people have continued the work and sown grass on their frontages. .... The usual meeting of the School Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs J. Mead (Chairman), O. H. Brailsfprd secretary), Williams, Mettrick, A. Turley, W. A. Beaumont, R. Jamieson, and A. McLean. The Canterbury Education Board wrote regarding observance of Arbor Day. Referred to school staff to organise some suitable scheme. The Headmaster’s report was received and his action in procuring supplementary readers was approved. The minor requirements mentioned were referred to the Board’s overseer.

The use of' the gymnasium was granted 'to the Schools’ Football Association to conduct functions to raise funds for the Annual Football tournament. ' .
