HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE. [our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA, December 2.

The monthly meeting of the Hokitika School Committee was held last evening. Present: Mr A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), Mrs Wilson, Messrs W. H. Shannon, R. J. Pedder, J. J. Breeze, F. Chesterman, W. E. Richards, H. Sweney, J. Conning (hon. secretary). The Chairman reported that he had enquired re railway passes for children receiving dental treatment, but no concession can be granted; also tKat the dental officers reports she cannot visit Hari Hari for some months. Mrs Dale, wrote resigning her position as assistant mistress at the school. —Accepted with regret; a record to be made in the minutes appreciating Mrs Dale’s faithful service. The secretary of the Reefton School Committee wrote stating that the Reefton excursion would be held at Hokitika.—Resolved that the committee do all in their power to make the excursion pleasant.

It was resolved that the Board be asked to have the shelter sheds painted.

The Rector reported that the gross takings at the Fair was £7O 0/6 less expenses, leaving £6B 1/10 nett., which with fuel funds £76 10/-. On the motion of Mr Shannon, it was resolved to place on record the thanks of the committee to the rector and staff, pupils and parents for their valuable assistance. The Rector said that in no other place had he known the public to support the school as it does here. Since he has been here £l6O had been raised, which speaks volumes for the co-opera-tion of the public with the committee. The Rector also reported that Miss Dale had returned to duty. During the monoth visits had been mhde by Miss Dyer, inspector of home science, Mr Johnston, agricultural instructor, and Mr Webb and Miss Greenwood, drill instructors. It was resolved that the excursion this year be made to Blackball. It was resolved that prizes be presented at the close of the term, and that the sum of £3O be voted to that end. The procuring of prizes was left to the Chairman, Secretary and the Rector.
