MOSES NOT AN AUTHORITY,

AUCKLAND, June 17,

Scripture was quoted by counsel in (he Supreme Court in support of his contention that there must be corroboration of a child’s evidence in a critical case.

In his address to the jury, counsel (’noted from the 15th verse of the 19th chapter of Deuteronomy, which reads: “One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity. At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses shall it be established.”

Counsel said that relying on so sure an authority as Moses, the Jury could relieve their conscience by returning a verdict of not guilty. Justice Herdman remarked that Moses was not, an authority In that court. (Laughter).

The jury found the prisoner guilty.
