M.C.C. v. QUEENSLAND

DAY OF LOW SCORING

HOME SIDE’S ADVANTAGE (By Gable—Press Assn— Copyright.) BRISBANE, December 1. The cricket match, Queensland versus England, was resumed yesterday. Hornibrook and Hubbard, in a sound partnership, made the Queensland tail wag. The innings ended at the luncheon adjournment for a total of 248. Gilligan and Dawson opened cautiously for England, but later the captain hit out. The fielding was always smart and the bowling kept the batsmen defending. Grilligan made 48, and Dawson 26. Duleepsinhji was never comfortable, and when he was 13 a good ball from Oxenham beat him. Ducat was out when 10 to a brilliant catch by Harwood. The play yesterday was dull compared with the bright display on Friday. The crowd were disappointed at the early dismissal of the Indian batsman after his brilliant first innings. Turnbull and Nichols livened matters for a while, but they did not last long. Oxenham had taken two wickets for 17 when he got Nichols leg before. Turnbull, when he was 14, went soon afterwards. England’s position appeared to be hopeless when six wickets were down for 135. The play was then dead slow. The crowd ironically cheered each single run. Worthington was 30 minutes in opening his score. The pair played out time, in spite of frequent bowling changes. Stores : — M.C.C. —Ist Innings 171
