(Our Own Correspondent).

REEFTON, September 2?.

The new Criterion Theatre was again well filled last night on the occasion of the Reefton Fire Brigade annual ball. Mrs Magee’s Excelsior orchestra supplied jazz and modern dance music, while the Inangahua Silver Band supplied the music for the old time dances. The supper was well served. At the supper adjournment Mr J. B. Auld, County Chairman on behalf of the people of Reefton, thanked. the members of the Brigade. for the excellent service rendered to the town during the past year, their work in two notable instances saving a large amount of valuable property from destruction. He also presented the following badges of service won by members during the past year: Fireman Jas. Eager, Clasp for completing 21 years’ service; Captain Coxall, Clasp, nine years’ service; Lieut. Thos. Lawry, Clasp, 11 years; Foreman Norman Dick, Five Years’ Medal; Foreman Curtis, Three Years’ Certificate; Foreman G. Reid, Three Years’ Certificate.

Wintry conditions prevailed at Reefton yesterday. During the night 76 points of rain fell, and the ranges were .covered with snow which was low down. A keen southerly wind made outside conditions very unpleasant.
