Mr Summers of the Public Works Department, is at present engaged in the survey of the site of the proposed bridge at Williscrofts over the Maruia River.

Dr. W. A. Conlon left for Christchurch on Thursday, on a short visit. Mr E. Mosley returned to Dunedin via Christchurch on Thursday. Mr R. Henderson, of Papanui, after successfully negotiating for a lease of the Exchange Hotel, left for Christchurch on Thursday.

A sitting of the Warden’s Court was held on Thursday before Mr Meldrum, Warden.

F. W. Foster, Conservator of Forests v. W. J Morris. Three suits for cancellation of certain timber rights and arrears of rents payable thereunder. Adjourned by Court for the taking of evidence on behalf of defendant at Christchurch. W. 8., Taverner as Commissioner of State Forests and.O. B. A. Sharpe as Receiver of Gold Revenue v. the Waitahu (New Zealand) Colliery Ltd. and A. D. Williams, claim for cancellation of Sawmill License situate at Waitahu and arrears of rent thereunder, £37 8/-. The facts alleged in the statement of claim were admitted by defendant. Aftei’ hearing some legal argument, the case was adjourned by the Court till April 19, on the application of defendants. Applications. —R. M. Hempseed for an Ordinary Prospecting License over 100 acres at Alexander River. Adjourned to April 19. New Millerto?! Mines Ltd. (in liquidation) for a Certificate of Protection for twelve months in respect to two mining privileges.—Granted. South Blackwater Mines Ltd (inliquidation) for a Certificate of Protection for twelve months in respect to two mining privileges.—Granted.

At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., W. C. Chisnall, licensee of the Rose and Thistle Hotel, Blackwater, represented by Mr Patterson, pleaded guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours on February 23, 1929. Counsel explained the circumstances and accused was convicted and fined £2. costs 12/. Two other charges were withdrawn. Three first offenders, charged with being found unlawfully on the above premises at the time in question, were each convicted and ordered to pay costs.

Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in each of the following cases:—G. E. A. Hubbard v. J. McKenzie, £2 6/, costs £1 3/6 ; Thomas Lamberton v. James Lamberton (jun.), £5, costs 10/; Lamberton and Lawn v. R. F. Cochrane, £l3 4/6, costs £1 3/. Janies B. Stevenson (Mr Patterson) sued Edward Schwass (Mr Morgan) for £8 2/6 for fixing in a cream separator he had sold to the latter in 1924. Defendant contended that the work was included in the bargain of sale and had already been paid for. After hearing lengthy evidence the Magistrate nonsuited plaintiff, allowing costs to defendant amounting to £5 2/.

J. W. Osborne v. E. Gilsennan. judgment debtor ordered to pay £5 6/7 and solicitor’s fee 15/6 forthwith, in default seven days’ imprisonment in Greymouth Prison. J. 4V. Chalk v. W. Read. Judgment debtor ordered to pay £l2 6/2 and solicitor’s fee £1 1/ forthwith, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment in Grevmouth Prison.

T. IT. Broderick v. F. Cook. Judgment debtor ordered to pay £4 19/4 forthwith, in default seven days’ imprisonment in Greyniouth Prison.
